Scoring a late goal was not enough to change the outcome, but it did provide a bit of solace. This victory ended the three-game losing skid that the Red and Golds had been experiencing in the current season.
The visiting team controlled the ball throughout the early stages of the game, forcing the home team to wait for their chance to counter-attack. The Blasters' approach was limited, as they mainly relied on Noah Sadaoui playing down the right flank. The home team took advantage of this predictable pattern. The game's first scoring chance went to Dimitrios Diamantakos in the 15th minute, after Naorem Mahesh Singh regained possession and began a counter-attack. He released Diamantakos, who was open space, but Sachin Suresh blocked the Greek forward's shot on target.
A few minutes later, Sachin was uncertain in his response to Cleiton Silva's direct freekick to the goal. Richard Celis seized onto the stray ball, but he didn't have sufficient space to put it into the goal. With these attacks, the hosts were gradually building up their momentum.
Oscar Bruzon's side took the lead in the 20th minute when Cleiton made a precise long pass to Vishnu on the right wing. The young player easily outmaneuvered his marker, got around him and chipped the ball over Sachin, who had come out of position. The ball rolled across the goal-line, just out of Korou Singh's reach as he tried to clear it from danger.
The visitors outperformed their opponents as they created a few good scoring opportunities. They nearly increased their lead when Diamantakos passed the ball to Cleiton inside the penalty area, forcing the Brazilian goalkeeper, Sachin, to make an incredible save. In the process, the visitors also had a chance to score their second goal when Celis took a shot from far away, but his effort ricocheted off the post.
They ended the first half with a commanding lead in this match. The last time they held a lead at the break was against NorthEast United FC last November.
It appeared to be an enhanced performance as they began the second half with a strong desire to score. Noah was responsible for directing their plays as they continued to strive for a tying goal. In the 58th minute, Kwame Peprah was brought in to provide additional attacking momentum as Milos Drincic made way for him.
The Moroccan team's opportunity was thwarted. In the meantime, Lalthanmawia Renthlei entered the field, substituting Korou.
In the 72nd minute, the hosts achieved a decisive goal when Hijazi rose to the highest point from a corner served by Mahesh and headed it towards the back of the net successfully. Since he was left unmarked, he fully utilized the chance to score his second goal of the season so far.
Returning to the game with a timely strike. The midfielder secured possession of the ball after it was cleared by Hijazi and placed it into the lower right corner of the net. As the game reached its final stages, Bruzon elected to introduce Hector Yuste, substituting Diamantakos.
They made a push for the equalizing goal, but ultimately fell short of clinical efficiency in front of the net, and the hosts were resolute in their defensive stance.
The player made an outstanding display, successfully holding off Noah and Diamantakos with impressive blocks. Additionally, he provided valuable support to Jeakson Singh, who was deputizing at right back. Jeakson managed to record two crucial clearances and maintained a high level of passing accuracy, completing 14 out of his 22 attempted passes.
They will face Chennaiyin FC on January 30.
