Following PSG’s historic Champions League victory, club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi paused to express his gratitude. all Those who played a part in the club’s lengthy path to achieving European success – including a few contentious ex-players.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Al-Khelaïfi paid tribute to a wide range of players who helped shape PSG’s rise, including icons from the early QSI era like Javier Pastore, Thiago Silva, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Edinson Cavani, and Ángel Di María. But it was his next statement that turned heads:
“And I’m going to say something very important: even Neymar, Messi, and Kylian Mbappé. We will never forget what they did for the club. They helped build this success.”
Mbappe Mentioned... Even Amid Legal Battle
The inclusion of Mbappé was notably unexpected. The forward departed PSG under strained circumstances and is presently embroiled in litigation with the team concerning €55 million in outstanding payments for bonuses and salaries. Interactions between the athlete and the leadership at PSG have been fraught—at best describing them would be an understatement.
However, during the triumph, Al-Khelaïfi chose reconciliation, at least outwardly. It is yet to be determined whether this signifies an actual improvement in relationships or merely a ceremonial act after winning the Champions League.
Victory as a Unifier?
Al-Khelaïfi’s words may be read as an attempt to close a tumultuous chapter in PSG’s history — marked by high-profile signings, disappointments, and dramatic departures. With this long-awaited European title finally secured, the club appears eager to rewrite its story from a place of unity and pride.
But behind the scenes, especially in the courts, the legal battle with Mbappé is far from over. The president’s olive branch may smooth things over with fans — but not with the lawyers.
