Gary Neville has expressed his approval of reports suggesting Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernands is likely to reject a substantial transfer to Saudi Arabia.
The 30-year-old Portugal international has been the subject of speculation linking him with a £100million switch to Al Hilal, with the Saudi Pro League side reportedly prepared to pay him £700,000 per week.
Although United declined to comment when reached by the PA news agency, reports surfaced on Tuesday indicating that the midfielder has no desire to pursue such a move at this point in his career.
This information would provide a significant boost to head coach Ruben Amorim as he aims to revamp the team following a disappointing season.
United suffered their poorest showing during the Premier League era, ending up in 15th place, but Fernandes was among the handful of players who came out with praise.
Neville informed Sky Sports News, "This matter holds considerable importance."
I believe that part of this scenario involved United securing such a sum for someoneBruno's age, clearly one couldn't consider it to be a poor deal.
“However, on the flip side, Manchester United’s key player – sometimes their sole standout player – over the past four, five, six years has been Bruno Fernandes. His importance cannot be overstated.”
The reality is that his desire to remain and endure until the very end, instead of simply opting out at the close of this season by saying, 'I'm finished with this,' will make him increasingly beloved among Manchester United supporters.
“To turn that money down at a point where Manchester United are at their lowest ebb and say, ‘No, I want to fight through this, I want to see it through the other side, I want to come out and achieve things,’ I think it says a lot about him as a person, as a character.
The club requires individuals who will go through a brick wall for the team.
Manchester United have already made their first move in the summer transfer window by securing Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
They are also being heavily linked with Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
Departures could include Jadon Sancho, although latest reports have suggested Chelsea are prepared to pay a penalty fee to escape an obligation to make his current loan permanent.
Neville stated: "They require players who can step in and immediately make an impact, and both Cunha and Mbeumo possess clear Premier League experience."
I understand that Ruben Amorim employs a tactic involving two players positioned just behind the main forward. Should those players be Mbeumo and Cunha, Manchester United should find it possible to swiftly transition from defensive areas to offensive zones due to their speed.
We understand that players like Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, and most likely Alejandro Garnacho might be departing, which means they will certainly require new signings for these roles.
